The residents (Cariocas) of Rio de Janeiro
The residents (Cariocas) of Rio are well known for their laid-back vibe and we definitely found that to be the case.
That vibe was in evidence from the owner of the apartment we rented, who gave us a discount on the price just because he liked us; to the people on the subway, who gave our girls a place to sit and advised us to put our iPhones away; to our tour guide, who watched the girls so we could take our time looking at the famous tiled steps.

The vibe was also in evidence whenever we were at a beach. There were usually some other kids there who wanted to play with Hannah and Amy, including one girl whose Mom asked if she could play with our girls, unfortunately just as we were leaving.

Then, there were the Über drivers who gave lollipops to the girls and tried to have a conversation with us, despite the language barriers.
We also love that Rio and its residents support art of various kinds, from street art, to sand art, to subway art. The pop of color on an otherwise drab building, just makes the city that much more pleasant.

Similarly, we love the diversity of people, style and body types in Rio and how all are welcome.
Aside from the beautiful setting, the Cariocas are another reason we love Rio de Janiero!
